the holidays aren't over, they've just begun!

christmas was fantastic. i was surprised. i felt loved. i saw everyone i wanted to see. good times were had. no one got arrested or in a fight. i couldn't ask for more!
on to new years eve, my real favorite holiday of the year. most people tend to find new years eve a hassle and while i certainly don't disagree with that i just brush that off so i can enjoy one of the best celebrations of the year. the last few years we've been doing the popscene/disco200? party but we're skipping that this year and taking the muni around sf to various parties, should be good and cheap!
after new years eve i'm looking forward to disneyland for valentine's day with joe.
i love the holidays!

quote of the day

"i just got off an hour long conference call about a sexual harassment case and we should have been fired a long time ago!"- john to me and lucia

a year in review- the best of 2008

the year is almost over, it's been so crazy and good i don't think i want it to end. i know that its just going to get better as time goes on but i have to reflect on all of the great things that 2008 brought. the biggest/best thing to happen in 2008 is, in my opinion and without a doubt, the election of barack obama as president. i can't wait for 2009 and the years that follow to see the outcome of this historic election. a lot changed for me in 2008, as with any year there were highlights and points of great sadness but in the end i think its been one of the best years of my life. i love making lists so here are just a few, the best things about 2008 (none in a particular order because i hate playing favorites).
best albums:
- the raconteurs- consolers of the lonely
- conor oberst- s/t
- death cab for cutie- narrow stairs

- the raconteurs- treasure island music fest

- alice radio's summerthing- golden gate park (thanks for the backstage pass, cath!!)

best events:
- transferring job to SF office
- starting this blog
- meeting lucia/ first lunch date at harrington's
- sunday brunches at lime followed by dolores park
- all the nights at 222 Hyde
- company christmas party

a farewell kiss

unless you're living under a rock i'm sure you've heard that a journalist threw his shoes at president bush on his surprise trip to iraq last weekend. apparently its an insult to throw your shoes at someone in iraq. as you may know, i'm not the president's biggest fan but i do agree with his reaction which is that "the guy wanted to get on TV and he did." whatever the reason, it has given me great entertainment thanks to this website where you can throw a shoe at the president's face! my high score so far is 8. what's your score?

MY hottest mac chicks

today i read an article about the "19 hottest mac chicks" and it seemed to me that it was missing a few people. i know a lot of sexy, sassy, lady mac users and i don't think they should be overlooked!

Lucia- stepped on and cracked her mac book screen about a year ago and doesn't care. uses it to listen to random country and euro dance. can't do much more with it per the huge black blob that takes up about 75% of the screen.

Danielle- currently using a new macbook, 13" screen with awesome black keyboard, its really pretty. hopes to one day make sweet tunes ala greg gillis and his saran wrapped mac.

cathleen: ipod. i phone. macbook. this chick is hooked up! recently became addicted to google reader which she can now check from just about anywhere in the world!

cassie- still rocks an original ipod after her newbie recently broke. you can find her and her macbook chillin' in coffee shops and bars in portland.

Megan- not one but 2 macs! rocks white macbook at home and grey macbook pro at work. also loves her ipod. another hooked up chick. loooooves photo booth and garageband.

while i do agree that gisele, ijustine and michelle obama, etc. are very hott mac users, i just don't think they have anything on my mac using friends!

see you in 2009!

before alkaline trio. before bright eyes. before the faint. before animal collective. before any of the bands i've loved in the last few years of my life there was the get up kids. one of my favorite bands ever, that i still listen to with delight and wonder. the first time i heard something to write home about my life was changed. after that i was introduced to an entirely new set of bands and songs and i was enamored by all of it.
when they played their last show in sf in 2005 i missed it and i totally regretted it. i got to see matt pryor's solo tour last summer and fell in love all over again when he played several tguk's songs acoustic.
today, i read that they're doing a reunion tour in 2009 to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of something to write home about!
"The reunion show was officially announced on Friday, November 14th, along with
the official confirmation of the album re-release and a 2009 national tour. The
10th anniversary edition of the album will also include a photo album and a DVD
containing a band retrospective and other content."

i'm so excited i can barely contain myself! i will be there, front row, screaming like a little school girl and i will love every minute (although truth be told, i'll probably actually stand in the back and get wasted and sing obnoxiously and annoy the surrounding fans, they'll have to get over it!).

defend traditional marriage???

riiiiiight, because the [fake] marriage between these two is so much more sanctimonious than it would be between two homosexuals. i'm convinced this entire relationship is a joke on the public that watches this show and that its strictly a business relationship. are you kidding me? no one would spend more than 5 minutes with that guy unless they were being paid, i don't even think his family likes him, hence the sister didn't show up in his life until mtv started cutting her a check.
im glad they got to exchange vows though and file for their marriage license. i give it less than a year before the divorce.
defend traditional marriage? ban divorce!!

without a doubt

i couldn't imagine any other person gracing the cover of time's person of the year issue. if it had been anyone else i would have staged a protest!
33 days and counting down until barry o. is sworn in and changes our lives, even more so than he already has!

what is art? are we art? is art art?

the idee multicolr search lab is the coolest thing ever! you select which colors you like and it extracts photos from flickr and displays them. it's currently using over 10 million photos that are provided by flickr. big thanks to cathleen for providing me with more time wasting entertainment here at the office!

too bad new zealanders are a bunch of cocky a-holes descended from criminals and retarded monkeys

finally, they return!
when we last left off murray had hired a bongo player for the band and bret and jemaine fired him. murray forms a new band which becomes successful with the song "doggy bounce."
i hope that they reunite with murray this season!

in re: i hate attorneys

today i called an attorney to find out about the status of the brief that he is to submit for his upcoming mediation. he called me back and left me a message as follows:
"hi erin, just calling you back regarding the brief you called about, we're just
putting the finishing touches on that this afternoon and we should get it
out to you today or tomorrow, after all, the sistine chapel wasn't built in a
day, thanks for checking in."

thanks guy, its condescension like this that leads me to exclaim that i hate everything all day long.

quote of the day

this empty place in your heart. "- angela chase, my so-called life

phlog: the company christmas party

ho. ho. ho. merry christmas party. oh wait, i'm sorry. "holiday party." must be pc in the business world. one of my projects at work this year was to plan to the company holiday party and after several months of being annoyed by everything, the party was a great success! i've been told by more than one person it was the most successful party thus yet! go me! yay bonus!!! want to give a special shout out to my friends who made into more pictures than anyone else at the party! and some special awards for the night:
best dance moves: tie! lucia fischer dancing to footloose (and breaking a chandelier)! and erin + lucia teaching the ceo & a neutral the infamous "puppet dance"
cutest couple: tie! erin + joe and megan + jesse
best last minute date: megan romero
person who made it into the most pictures (and doesn't even work here): megan romero
best alchohol consumption: lucia and her 1200 gin & tonics

i have to say that megan was the biggest winner of the night!

i ain't sayin' shes a gold digger

i certainly don't have an engagement or wedding on the horizon (and this is in no way, shape or form any kind of hint that i'm looking for one) but that doesn't mean i can't spend my days designing my engagement ring and thanks to bluenile.com i can literally spend all day doing just that! this ring is probably a little selfish of me, i can't help it- we are living in a material world and i am a material girl. i admit, buying an engagement ring on the internet seems a little lame to me. i would much rather walk into tiffany's and have something custom made there, however their website doesn't allow me to play all day like this one does. one great thing about this website is that they do have a conflict-free policy, so you know that your diamonds aren't of the blood variety, something that i (and kanye) feel very strongly about. no one should die for my finger to sparkle and i hope that everyone feels that way!
this website has an e-mail a friend feature if you're feeling like you should be hinting to someone.

julie mccool is the best boss ever!

well she's not technically my boss but she does have control over most of my workload during the day, so i'll still say boss, either way, she's the best! she delivered to me today this pack of gum fit truly for me. "i really hate you" gum! its like fate.
thank you julie for making my day SOOOOO much better!

some kind-a gorgeous

i'm addicted to benefit cosmetics. it's gotten to the point where i can't walk by the counter in macy's and make eye contact with the sales girls or i'll have to stop and buy something. they all know me. i know them. because i get my eyebrows done at the benefit brow bar i'm forced to go there every other month or so and i can't walk away without getting something. the product has a magnetic force that sucks me in. this product was completely marketed to me, it's hip store atmosphere, clever product names and adorable packaging make it irresistible. the sales girls are so helpful and nice as opposed to some brands that i won't name (cough cough mac).
i'm not sure what to do. i can't leave the house without a little ooh la lift and some bad gal lash so i'm not sure i can't break the addiction but i know i don't need to purchase all these random products that just sit on my vanity table and look pretty. whenever i see an advertisement for something new i find myself wanting to go to the mall that very moment to see it up close and on my face. i don't even really wear very much make up so the fact that i'm constantly buying this stuff i don't need is a real problem.
someone please break me of my addiction or buy me something pretty... either way i win!
